Finally, a good training weekend!

Managed my first 50+ mile ride of the season yesterday in fabulous sunshine, little wind and temps hovering around 60. Very unSeattle-like April weather, but I'll take it. I am proud to say that I managed my nutrition/hydration much better this weekend and am feeling tired, but not worn out or exhausted on my rest day today. Still getting psyched for my 1/2 marathon in Vancouver as I ran a strong 11 with that crew on Saturday. Alden is beginning his taper for Nationals (May 11-14) and so is limiting his cross-training. He'll still make the trek to Vancouver to spectate which I really appreciate especially as I will be supporting from afar when he is in Florida. Just can't leave the school/training craziness (although I've still found myself checking out the last-minute plane fares wishing I had bought a ticket). His tales of swimming fast will inspire me to train hard that weekend, I hope! Speaking of training, will try to get in a bunch early this week so I can play when Yvonne is here. Cory or Meagan, are you planning to stow away in Yvonne's bags for a quick trip to the west coast? Anyone else on training? And how was Ireland/Italy, noeplz?

60 days til the reunion

What a flurry of posts as Chris and Meagan rejoin the fold. I can understand where they are both coming from as I do have to plan my schedule around a little person and I am working hard to get back in shape. If we were training for an olympic distance tri, I would be excited because I have been able to get in lots of workouts but nothing very long. I am pretty happy with my last week though as I have had two days where I ran at the gym and then went right into the pool for a swim. I have been getting in some good 1-2 hour bike rides and just got my road bike back from the shop so it nice and shiny and quiet. Tonight I pick up the chariot bike trailer so noah can be the caboose when I ride this weekend. I might not get in the long rides but it has to help that I am towing a trailer!!!!

I am going to buy my tickets for eagleman this week. It sounds like we will all be there so we need to find a good place for a long relaxing dinner the night before or we could do the same as last year.

I'm Back!

As I too am not a contender for Eagleman (sorry to hear that you won't be racing Chris, but it sounds like you are loving life a little bit more without that hanging over your head!) I am looking forward to seeing you all compete in Cambridge. Scott, Alex and I are hoping to make the trip and have the little man experience his first triathlon. He was at his first bike race two weeks ago and he was so excited he slept the whole time!

I am happy to let you all know that I have started "working out" again. It is surely a lame workout compared to all the efforts of y'all. I have run now, twice and I am hoping to get on my bike this weekend. With all this nice weather I have been getting out for some long walks and it is amazing how challenging it can be to push an extra 30 pounds (A-Man and stroller combined) up the Capitol hill while dodging wacky tourists. Cory watch out, I may be ready for your running pace in the not so distant future. If you are looking to do a recovery run sometime, give me a call.

This past weekend we baptized Alex along with his cousin Will. I have attached the link to Alex's blog so you can check him out. Hope all is well with everyone.

Cherry Blossom 10 miler

For the first time in recent memory, the weather [and the blossoms] were in perfect form for the Cherry Blossom 10 miler yesterday. It was my first time running in that race and its JAMMED with people and tough to get into a rhythm. I've been suffering with allergies for the past two weeks so while I trained for this one, my endurance was seriously reduced and it shows in my time [1:42:37, 10.38 pace]. I also decided to take a late afternoon bike ride with John on Saturday out to the palisades to see the lovely cherry blossoms. It was a great ride except for the times I thought I was going to die...first time riding on the road on Rock Creek...an experience to say the least. I can do me some urban riding but heck...I like my face the way it is [un scathed by road rash for the moment], thank you very much. All turned out well and I convinced John to take the GW path on the way home to avoid the car traffic...we compromised; roads [no peds] on the way out and path [no cars] on the way back.

An easy 20 mile ride, testing out the new aerobars and seat!! The seat is like a glove for my butt [sorry for the graphic reference but its that good] ... and the aerobars need a bit of adjusting but they're pretty spiffy. I hit my knees on them when I get out of the saddle to go up a hill.

On Sunday, after the race, we went to the Capitol Hill Bikes Expo where John was a model. Like last year, everyone got something [I got a mini tool and some socks, John got a Specialized mt. bike saddle and a t-shirt -- sweet Bianchi shirt] and then went to see "Inside Man" -- really good Spike Lee/Clive Owen/Denzel Washington movie. So here it is, Monday morning and I'm still tired from yesterday.

Training is back on and will post updates as I progress through my plan!
